The GCOM-W1/GOSAT-GW AMSR2/AMSR3 Algorithm Software Package (GAASP) ingests L1B/L1R products processed by the software provided by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and utilizes downstream L2/L3 algorithms developed by NESDIS STAR to generate NOAA unique L1/L2/L3 products. These include calibrated microwave brightness temperatures, rainfall rates, sea surface temperatures, sea surface wind speeds, total precipitable water, and cloud liquid water. The suite also covers soil moisture, surface type, snow cover, snow depth, snow water equivalent, snowfall rates, and sea ice. The National Weather Service (NWS) uses these products to enhance numerical weather prediction, precipitation analysis, and tropical cyclone monitoring, including location and intensity analysis, while also providing significant benefits to sister agencies.
