NOAA NESDIS provides Level-2 processed Meteosat Second Generation (03 and 02) Sea Surface Temperature products at 5-km spatial resolution, also referred to as Geostationary SSTs (GeoSSTs). These are Physical Retrieval Algorithm based SSTs (Prabhat K. Koner, Andrew Harris, and Eileen Maturi, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Vol. 53, No. 11, 2015) derived from the SEVIRI instrument flown onboard geostationary MSG-02 and MSG-03 satellites. These high-quality, near-real-time estimates of ocean surface temperature are used for coral reef monitoring, ocean and hurricane forecasting, fisheries analyses, and many other environmental studies. Products are provided in both GHRSST (Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature) and hdf formats.
