One global ALPW NetCDF4 file is produced every hour. This file is compatible with AWIPS-2 systems and is ready for use throughout the NWS. It contains geophysical data and metadata. The geophysical datasets are floating point arrays on the global Cylindrical Equidistant (CE) projection (1251 rows x 2501 columns) used in ALPW production. This projection has a spatial resolution of 16 km or better. ALPW consists of four layers (surface-850 mb, 850-700 mb, 700-500 mb, 500-300 mb) of layer precipitable water and has units of mm or inches. These layers were chosen based on forecaster interest and the information content of the MiRS soundings from which LPW is derived.
