DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z October 24, 2026

SMOKE:
Southeastern U.S.…
Multiple fires across the Southeastern U.S. were active this
morning. Agricultural fires located near Lake Okeechobee, Florida,
were observed producing light-density smoke plumes drifting southward
and southwestward. The Bee Haven (2) fire in Hamilton County, Florida
produced moderate-to-heavy density smoke that moved southwestward over
the Gulf of America before becoming light-density smoke. The smoke then
continued westward and northwestward toward the Louisiana coast. Areas
of moderate-density smoke were observed across the southeastern United
States, while another area of moderate-density smoke over the Midwest
extended northeastward into Canada. A larger area of light-density smoke
covered much of southeastern and Midwestern Unites States, extending
from southern Gulf of America northeastward, ultimately reaching eastern
Canada.

Mexico…
A layer of light-to-moderate density smoke was observed along the western
coast of Mexico and drifting southwestward into the Pacific Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
