DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z September 7, 2026

SMOKE:

Canada…
Despite significant cloud cover, wildfires in the southern Northwest
Territories continued to burn this morning, which produced a localized
area of medium-to-heavy density smoke that drifted south. A layer of
remnant medium-to-heavy density smoke
was observed extending eastward from Nunavut across the Hudson Bay
and northern Quebec, eventually reaching the Davis Strait. A broader
layer of light-density smoke was observed over much of northern Canada,
extending southeastward from the Northwest Territories into northern
British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario before
drifting eastward across Nunavut towards Greenland.

CONUS…
A layer of remnant light density smoke was observed drifting southward
across the Central Plains before extending eastward into the Southeastern
U.S. and southwestward into Mexico.

California…
The Plaskett Fire in Monterey County, California was observed producing
light density smoke drifting southeastward along the coastline before
moving west over the Pacific Ocean.

Mexico…
A small layer of light-density smoke from fires, industrial activity,
and smoke from CONUS was observed over northeastern Mexico. A separate
layer of light-density smoke was observed over the Isthmus of Tehuantepec,
extending northwestward along the Mexican Pacific Coast and southeastward
into Central America before dispersing southwestward into the Pacific
Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
