DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z September 6, 2026
SMOKE: Canada… Despite significant cloud cover, wildfires in the southern Northwest Territories continued to burn this evening, which produced a localized area of medium-to-heavy density smoke that drifted east. A layer of light-density smoke was observed drifting eastward from the Northwest Territories into Nunavut and over the Hudson Bay. CONUS… A small layer of remnant light density smoke was observed across the southeast and eastern states. Fires along the Mississippi Valley were observed producing individual smoke plumes that moved southwest. California… The Plaskett Fire in Monterey County, California was observed producing light density smoke drifting northwestward before moving west over the Pacific Ocean. Mexico… A small layer of light-density smoke from fires, industrial activity, and smoke from CONUS was observed over northeastern Mexico. A layer of light-to-moderate smoke was observed over the Isthmus of Tehuantepec dispersing locally before moving southwestward toward the Pacific Ocean. Hernandez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
