DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z September 1, 2026

SMOKE:
Canada…
Despite significant cloud cover this morning, light-to-moderate
density smoke was observed over the Northwest Territories. The smoke
moved northeast into Nunavut and southeast into  Saskatchewan and
Manitoba. Light-to-moderate smoke was also observed in Quebec. The smoke
may consist of smoke remnants from yesterday’s fire activity.

U.S. Pacific Coast…
Wildfires across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana produced
light-to-moderate smoke over the region. The smoke dispersed locally
before moving northeast into Canada. The Plaskett Fire in Monterey County,
California was observed producing moderate-to-heavy density smoke moving
southeast within the state. Light-to-moderate smoke was also observed
northern California moving north toward Oregon.

Central and Eastern CONUS...
Fires were active across central and southeastern CONUS this morning. The
fires produced an area of light-to-moderate smoke. The moderate smoke
extended from the Texas-Oklahoma border to North Carolina, while
the light-density smoke covered much of central, southeastern, and
northeastern CONUS, ultimately moving east into the Atlantic Ocean. The
light density smoke also moved southeast from Texas into Mexico and
northeast from northeastern CONUS into Canada.

Mexico…
A layer of remnant light density smoke from fires and industrial activity
was observed across the Gulf of America and Mexico. Smoke was also
observed in northwestern Mexico and moved west into the Pacific Ocean.

SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
