DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z August 14, 2026
SMOKE: Canada… Wildfires in the Northwest Territories continued to burn this evening, producing a regional layer of moderate-to-heavy density smoke. The smoke drifted east across much of Canada before turning northeast through Quebec and eventually moving off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Wildfires in southern British Columbia produced moderate-to-heavy density smoke plumes that joined with the fires in the Pacific Northwest of CONUS. A layer of light-density smoke extended across much of Canada, drifting east from the Northwest Territories before moving south into eastern CONUS and eastward over the Atlantic Ocean. Additional light-density smoke originating from the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia also contributed to the overall light smoke coverage. CONUS/Atlantic Ocean... Wildfires across the Pacific Northwest continued to produce moderate density smoke across the region this evening. The smoke drifted southward into northern California and north into British Columbia. A fire in Throckmorton County, Texas began burning this evening, producing moderate-to-heavy smoke that drifted north into southern Oklahoma. Light smoke over the fires in the southeast merged with the smoke from Canada that moved eastward into the Atlantic Ocean. Mexico/Gulf of America/Pacific Ocean... Light-density smoke was observed over along the Mexican Gulf Coast, Central Mexico, and the Gulf of America, some of which drifted southwestward across southern Mexico into the Pacific Ocean. A region layer of moderate-density smoke was also observed in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec before extending southwestward into the Pacific Ocean. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
