DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z August 5, 2026
SMOKE: Pacific Northwest... Wildfires in Washington, Oregon, and southern British Columbia continued to produce moderate-to-heavy density smoke plumes this morning, contributing to a regional area of moderate-to-heavy density smoke that drifted eastward into Idaho and western Montana and southwestward into the Pacific Ocean. CONUS... The area of moderate-to-heavy density smoke in the Pacific Northwest contributed to a widespread layer of light-to-moderate density smoke that was observed across a major portion of the U.S., extending west in the Pacific Ocean, east into the Atlantic Ocean, north into Canada, and south across the Gulf of America into Mexico. Utah... The Widemouth 2 Fire in central Utah remained active this morning, producing localized moderate-to-heavy density smoke and an extensive layer of light-density smoke drifting eastward into Colorado. California... The Gann Fire in Calaveras County, California was observed producing moderate-to-heavy density smoke drifting northward. Light-density smoke was also observed drifting southeastward this morning. Mexico... Light smoke covered the region from Baja and the Pacific coast to the western Gulf, and spread southeast into Guatemala. GL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
