DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z June 13, 2026
SMOKE: Southeastern CONUS/Atlantic Ocean/Gulf of America... An area of light-density smoke was observed across much of the southeastern CONUS, the coastal Mid-Atlantic extending offshore over the Atlantic Ocean. This smoke layer is likely the result of widespread agricultural burning across the southeastern CONUS, combined with lingering remnant smoke from Central Canada that has persisted over the past week. Nebraska... The South Fork Fire in northwestern Nebraska was observed producing moderate-to-heavy density smoke that moved southwestward from the fire. A broader area of light-density smoke extended across northern Nebraska and into southern and eastern South Dakota. New Mexico... The Bear Fire in western New Mexico was observed producing localized moderate-density smoke, along with a broader area of light density smoke. The smoke extended southeastward across New Mexico into northern Texas. Western and southern Mexico/Pacific... Light density remnant smoke continued to be observed across Baja California, the Gulf of California, western Mexico, and the near-shore Pacific Ocean. The remnant smoke is likely the result of fire activity across southwestern Mexico, concentrated along coastal Michoacan and Guerrero from previous days. GM THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
