DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z June 8, 2026

SMOKE:
Quebec…
A large area of remnant light-density smoke was observed over the
southeast portion of the Hudson Bay, traveling southeastward into
central Quebec.

New Jersey…
A large fire located on the border of Burlington County and Ocean County,
New Jersey produced light-to-medium-density smoke that dispersed to the
west and northwest, blanketing the western portion of central New Jersey
and continuing into parts of Pennsylvania.

North Carolina/South Carolina/Atlantic Ocean...
A plume consisting of light smoke from the Canadian fires was found
moving eastward over North Carolina and South Carolina, extending for
approximately 900 miles over the Atlantic ocean.

Florida…
Two large fires in east-central Florida were active this evening,
producing moderate-to-heavy-density smoke that covered the southern
portion of the state.

Northern Mexico/Central and Southern Plains/Middle and Lower Mississippi
Valley...
Smoke from fire activity in northern Mexico continued to travel north
this evening, spanning from central Texas, into Oklahoma, Arkansas and
Kansas. Individual smoke plumes were observed across the northwestern
coast of Mexico, ranging from light-to-medium density.

DUST:
Baja California…
Blowing dust could be seen across multiple sites along the eastern
coastline of Baja California, with plumes dispersing eastward over the
Gulf of California.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
