DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z May 25, 2026
SMOKE: Montana… Light-density smoke produced by a fire in Powell County, Montana and remnant smoke from yesterday’s activity contributed to a layer of light-density smoke extending eastward across the state. Another layer of remnant light-density smoke was also observed over much of northwestern South Dakota. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America/Central America... Fire activity, aerosol emissions from gas flaring and other industrial activities, and remnant smoke from previous days contributed to a widespread layer of light density smoke and aerosols across Mexico and northern Central America. The smoke extended southwest into the Pacific, east into northern Central America, and north across the western Gulf of America into the southern United States. DUST: Baja California… Light blowing dust was observed in central Baja California drifting eastward into the Gulf of California. GL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
