DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z April 13, 2026

SMOKE:
Southeast CONUS…
Active fires were present in the region this morning, but no significant
areas of smoke could be seen via satellite imagery due to cloud cover.

Cuba...
Fires in the province of Pinar del Rio were active this morning and were
observed producing medium-to-light density smoke that moved west into
the Yucatan channel.


SMOKE/AEROSOL:
Mexico/Gulf of America/Central America/Pacific Ocean...
Remnant smoke from burning across southern Mexico and Central America
over the past few days, combined with aerosol emissions from gas flaring
and other industrial activities, has resulted in a layer of light-density
smoke and aerosol that extended along the southern coasts of Mexico and
Central America before continuing southwestward into the Pacific.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
