DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z April 9, 2026

SMOKE:
Midwest/Southeastern CONUS…
Fires were active across the Midwest and Southeastern CONUS this
morning. Multiple fires were observed producing individual, light-density
smoke plumes that moved west. A larger area of light-density smoke was
observed dispersing over Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas before
moving northeastward. The smoke may also consist of smoke remnants from
yesterday’s fires in the region.


AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Gulf of America/Central America/Pacific Ocean...
Smoke from fire activity, remnant smoke from previous days, and aerosol
emissions from gas flaring and other industrial activities in central and
southern Mexico spread as a layer of light-density smoke that extended
into the Bay of Campeche, across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, and along
the southern coasts of Mexico and Central America before continuing
southwestward into the Pacific.

SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
