DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z March 13, 2026
SMOKE: Nebraska… Three separate fires were observed producing individual smoke plumes in Nebraska this morning. The first fire, located in Lincoln and Dawson counties, produced a light-to-moderate smoke plume traveling south towards Kansas. The second fire, located in Gard, Art, and Keith counties, produced a localized light-density smoke plume. The third fire in Thomas County, named the Road 203 Fire, generated a light-density smoke plume drifting towards the southeast. Southern Texas… A fire located in Kenedy County was observed producing a light-to-heavy density smoke plume extending towards the northwest. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Gulf of America/Central America/Pacific Ocean... Smoke from widespread fire activity, remnant smoke from previous days, and aerosol emissions from gas flaring and other industrial activities in central and southern Mexico concentrated into a layer of light density smoke that extended across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, along the Mexican Gulf Coast, and into the southern Gulf of America. Smoke was also observed off the western and southern coasts of Mexico and Central America before drifting southwest into the Pacific Ocean. GL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
