DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z February 14, 2026
SMOKE: Southeastern CONUS/Gulf of America/Atlantic Ocean... Widespread agricultural fires were active this morning in southeast CONUS. An area of light-density smoke was observed extending from southern Louisiana through Georgia and Florida, and over the northeastern part of the Gulf. The plume continued eastward into the Atlantic Ocean. The smoke may also consist of smoke remnants from yesterday’s agricultural fires in the region. Florida... Agricultural fires were observed both north and south of Lake Okeechobee, producing individual light-density smoke plumes. Plume movement varied across the area, with smoke drifting either west toward the Gulf or northwest across the state. Cuba... Seasonal fire activity was observed across much of Cuba. An area of light-density smoke was concentrated over the western portion of the island and extended offshore into the Gulf and the Caribbean Sea. The smoke may also consist of smoke remnants from yesterday’s agricultural fires in the region. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Gulf of America/Pacific Ocean… Smoke from scattered fire activity, as well as industrial aerosol emissions and remnant smoke from previous days, concentrated into a layer of light-density smoke that extended southwestward off the Mexican and Guatemalan coasts into the Pacific Ocean. Smoke also stretched along the eastern coast of Mexico, through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the Bay of Campeche, and into the Gulf of America. Hernandez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
