DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0142Z February 14, 2026
SMOKE: Central and Southeastern CONUS/Gulf of America/Atlantic Ocean... Widespread agricultural fires across the region were responsible for a large area of light-density smoke extending from the central U.S. eastward to the southeastern U.S., the eastern Gulf of America, and the offshore North Atlantic Ocean. Moderate-to-heavy plumes were observed in the southeastern U.S. Florida... Agricultural fires were observed north and south of Lake Okeechobee. The big fires in the northern region produced a moderate-to-heavy smoke plume and the fires in the southern region produced individual light-density smoke plumes that moved southeast toward the Atlantic Ocean. Northern Plains... Several agricultural fires were observed over southern Montana, northern Wyoming, and western North Dakota, producing light to locally moderate-density smoke moving to the northeast. Cuba... Seasonal fire activity was observed across most of Cuba, producing light-density smoke plumes that moved offshore to the southwest of the island. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Gulf of America/Pacific Ocean… Smoke from scattered fire activity, as well as industrial aerosol emissions and remnant smoke from previous days, concentrated into a layer of light-density smoke that extended southwestward off the Mexican and Guatemalan coasts into the Pacific Ocean. Smoke also stretched along the northwestern coast of Mexico, through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the Bay of Campeche, and into the Gulf of America along the southern coast of Texas. YL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
