DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z February 11, 2026
SMOKE: CONUS… Due to significant cloud coverage across much of CONUS this morning, very few smoke plumes were detected via satellite imagery. Southern Florida… Agricultural fires were observed south of Lake Okeechobee this morning, producing individual, light-density smoke plumes drifting northeast towards the Atlantic. A fire located north of the Big Cypress National Preserve was also seen producing a light-density smoke plume moving southwest towards the Gulf. Cuba... Agricultural fires were observed across Cuba this morning, producing light-density smoke plumes moving to the west. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Guatemala/Pacific Ocean... Fire activity and smoke remnants across southern Mexico and the Pacific Coastal Plain of Guatemala, as well as gas flaring activity in the Bay of Campeche, helped to create a layer of relatively light smoke that stretched over the Bay of Campeche, the Gulf of America, and along the Mexican Gulf Coast. This smoke was also being drawn south across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and northwest along the southern coastline of Mexico before drifting into the Pacific, where smoke remnants along the coasts of Michoacan, Guerrero, and Oaxaca contributed to the smoke layer. GL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
