DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z January 25, 2026

SMOKE:

Florida…
Agricultural fires persisted south of Lake Okeechobee today and produced
multiple individual plumes of light smoke. The plumes grew and merged
into a larger area of light smoke that drifted west and dispersed.

Cuba…
Multiple agricultural fires produced smoke plumes in central
Cuba. Widespread fires in Southwest Cuba produced heavy plumes that
covered most of the region and extended north into the Straits of Florida
and northwest towards the Gulf of America.


AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Gulf of America/Pacific Ocean...
Fire activity throughout southern Mexico mixed with aerosols from nearby
urban and industrial sources produced an area of light-density smoke
across the region. Smoke spread north along the eastern coast of Mexico,
and southwest into the Pacific.

SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
