DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z January 5, 2026
Smoke: Southern Florida… Light density smoke plumes were seen emitting from the fires south of Lake Okeechobee. Southern CONUS/Mississippi Valley… High fire activity seen throughout the southern CONUS and all along the Mississippi Valley. Due to cloud coverage in the area, smoke was not visible in tonight’s satellite imagery. South Point Fire… The South Point Fire, located along the western Arizona and Southwestern California border, was emitting a large medium to heavy density smoke plume that moved towards the NE further into Arizona. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America… An area of light-density smoke, consisting of residual emissions from scattered fire activity and aerosols from urban and industrial sources, was observed stretching from the coast of Louisiana to the Gulf Coast of Mexico, then extending southward before it crossed over the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and drifted northwest along the coastline as well as south into the Pacific Ocean. Rodriguez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
