DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z November 22, 2025
SMOKE: British Columbia… Fires located within the Interior Plateau in British Columbia were observed producing light-density smoke plumes drifting eastward across the region. Oregon… Multiple fires in southwestern Oregon were observed producing light-density smoke that remained in close vicinity to the fire sources. Southern Florida… Agricultural fires in southern Florida, specifically south of Lake Okeechobee, produced multiple plumes of light-to-moderate density smoke which dispersed west towards the Gulf of America. Wyoming… A fire in north-central Wyoming was seen this evening producing a light-to-heavy density smoke plume moving northward. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Pacific Ocean… An area of light-density smoke, consisting primarily of aerosols from gas flaring and other urban industrial activity across Mexico, mixed with additional emissions from scattered fire activity in the region and smoke remnants from previous days’ activities, was observed dispersing into the Pacific Ocean off the western and southern coastline of Mexico. Light smoke dispersing south from the United States also contributed to the area of light smoke drifting off Mexico’s eastern coastline into the Gulf of America. GL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
