DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z November 13, 2025

SMOKE:

Southeast CONUS…
High fire activity was seen in SE Conus this evening. Fires were emitting
mostly light density smoke plumes towards the east, with a few medium
to heavy density smoke plumes scattered throughout.

Virginia, U.S. …
The Bald Mountain fire in western Virginia was emitting a large mixed
density smoke plume eastward towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Lake Okeechobee, Florida…
Many fires were seen south of Lake Okeechobee, emitting light-density
smoke plumes towards the west over the Gulf.

Western CONUS and Canada…
High fire activity was seen in the western side of CONUS and in southern
Canada but due to heavy cloud coverage, smoke plumes were not visible
in satellite imagery this evening.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Pacific Ocean…
An area of light-density smoke, consisting primarily of aerosols from
gas flaring and other urban/industrial activity across Mexico, mixed
with additional emissions from scattered fire activity in the region,
was observed dispersing into the Pacific Ocean off the southern and
western coastline of Mexico.

SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
