DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Texas/Louisiana/Alabama/Georgia/South Carolina… Many small plumes of light density smoke were observed this evening in the southeastern United States spanning from eastern Texas eastward to Georgia and South Carolina. Winds caused the smoke plumes to dissipate toward the northeast. Arizona… Fires within Coconino and Sitgreaves National Forests were observed this evening producing moderate density smoke plumes that dispersed locally, then moved toward the northeast Saskatchewan/Manitoba… Many fires in southeast Saskatchewan and southwest Manitoba created a large plume of light density smoke this evening. Winds caused the smoke to dissipate toward the southeast. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Pacific Ocean… An area of light-density smoke, consisting primarily of aerosols from gas flaring and other urban/industrial activity across Mexico, mixed with additional emissions from scattered fire activity in the region, was observed dispersing into the Pacific Ocean off the southern and western coastline of Mexico. The smoke may also consist of smoke remnants of yesterday’s fires in the region. GM THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
