DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z October 29, 2025
SMOKE: Southeastern Texas/Louisiana… Light-to-moderate density smoke plumes produced by individual fires in southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana were observed extending southeast over the Gulf of America. Oregon/California… Many small areas of light-to-moderate density smoke plumes were observed this evening being produced by individual fires across Oregon and northern California. Arizona… Light-to-heavy density smoke plumes were observed this evening in central and east-central Arizona. The smoke plumes were concentrated near the fire sources. AEROSOL/SMOKE... Eastern Mexico/Guatemala/Gulf of America/Pacific Ocean... An area of light-density smoke, consisting primarily of aerosols from gas flaring and other urban/industrial activity across Mexico, mixed with additional emissions from scattered fire activity in the region, was observed extending southward along Mexico’s Gulf coast before being obscured by clouds. The smoke appeared to have extended across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and over the Gulf of Tehuantepec, drifting into the Pacific Ocean off the southern coastline of Mexico and Guatemala. The smoke continued to extend westward along the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range, with the smoke plume also drifting out into the Pacific Ocean. The areas of smoke may also consist of remnants of yesterday’s industrial burning and fire activity in the region. GL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
