DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z October 21, 2025

SMOKE:
U.S. Southeast…
An area of light smoke was observed this morning in the U.S. southeast
and is moving east with an incoming cold front. The plume is consisting
of light density smoke produced by the agricultural fires in region. The
area of smoke may also include remnants of smoke from yesterday’s
agricultural burning in the region.


AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Gulf of America/Florida...
An area of light density smoke, consisting of aerosols from industrial
activity in central Mexico and smoke emissions from individual fire
activities in the region, was observed spreading across much of the Gulf
area extending over Florida. Additional light smoke was also observed
along Mexico’s Pacific coast, dispersing offshore in the Pacific Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
