DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z October 4, 2025

SMOKE:
Great Plains/US Midwest/Ohio Valley/New England/Atlantic Ocean...
A large area of very light density smoke could be seen this evening
extending eastward from US Midwest and Great Lakes area, over the Ohio
Valley, New England, and New Brunswick, finally reaching the Atlantic
Ocean off the coast of Nova Scotia. The smoke also extended southward,
continued through the Central Great Plains and Southeastern United States,
merged with the individual smoke plumes produced by the agricultural
burning in the Lower Mississippi Valley, and ultimately reached the Gulf
of America off the coast of Texas and Louisiana.


Central Washington...
The Labor Mountain fire continued to burn in Kittitas County with
light-to-moderate smoke observed in the immediate vicinity of that site.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
