DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1430Z September 26, 2025

SMOKE:
Northwest Territories/Central Canada...
Wildfires continued across central Canada this morning, with the heaviest
smoke originating from the fires in the southern Northwest Territories
and central Alberta. Moderate smoke from these wildfires moved eastward
across the Northwest Territories and then curved south but was obscured by
heavy cloud cover. The smoke appeared to spread over Manitoba, western
Ontario, and northern Minnesota, thinning to light smoke as it drifted
across southeastern Saskatchewan, Ontario, and the Midwestern United
States. Additional light smoke spread southward across the central United
States into the northwestern Gulf of America.

Western United States...
Wildfires continued in Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon,
with the heaviest smoke being produced by the fires in central
Washington. Moderate-to-heavy smoke from these wildfires drifted eastward
across Washington, northern Idaho, and Montana, merging with smoke from
the Canadian fires. A large fire in southwestern Oregon was producing
light-to-moderate smoke moving south toward California and the Pacific
Coast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
