DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0115Z September 26, 2025

SMOKE:
Northwest Territories/Central Canada...
Wildfires continued across central Canada this evening, with the heaviest
smoke originating from fires in the southern Northwest Territories,
central and northeastern Alberta, and central Saskatchewan. Moderate
to heavy smoke from these wildfires moved eastward, thinning to light
smoke as it drifted across northern and central Saskatchewan, central
Manitoba, western and central Ontario, and Hudson Bay. Additional light
smoke spread southward into the Midwestern United States.

Western United States...
Wildfires continued in Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. Fires in
central Washington, northeastern Idaho, and western Montana were producing
moderate to heavy smoke drifting northeast, where it merged with smoke
from the Canadian fires. A large complex fire in southwestern Oregon
was producing moderate to heavy smoke moving south toward California
and the Pacific Coast.

Southeastern United States...
Agricultural fires in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina produced light
smoke that traveled north along the eastern United States, eventually
reaching New Jersey.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
