DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1430Z September 25, 2025

SMOKE:
Northwest Territories/Central Canada…
Wildfires continued throughout central Canada this morning, with the
heaviest smoke produced by the wildfires in central Alberta, northeastern
Alberta, and the southern Northwest Territories, where it then became
obscured by clouds. Moderate-to-heavy smoke from these wildfires moved
towards the east, thinning to light smoke as it drifted across northern
and central Saskatchewan, central Manitoba, western and central Ontario,
and the Hudson Bay. Additional light smoke spread south towards the
Midwestern United States.

Southeastern United States…
Fires in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina produced light smoke which
traveled north along the eastern United States, eventually reaching
New Jersey.

West Coast United States…
Wildfires continued in Washington State, with those in Chelan County
and Kittitas County producing moderate-to-heavy. The smoke initially
traveled east towards eastern Washington, then proceeded north into
British Columbia before reaching southern Alberta. Light smoke from
these fires merged with smoke from the Canadian fires.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
