THROUGH 2330Z September 23, 2025
SMOKE: Northwest Territories/Central Canada… Wildfires continued throughout central Canada today, with the heaviest smoke seen in the southern Northwest Territories, northeastern Alberta and western Saskatchewan. Moderate-to-thick smoke moved to the east, spreading and thinning to light smoke as it drifted across Hudson Bay, and south towards the Dakotas where it became obscured by clouds circulating in the central United States. Southeastern United States… Widespread agricultural burns from Louisiana to the Carolinas produced light density smoke which gathered over the southeastern United States and drifted northeast towards Newfoundland. West Coast United States… Wildfires continued in Washington State, with the heaviest smoke concentrating in the Olympic Mountains and central Cascades. Moderate-to-thick density smoke spread into the mountain valleys, thinning and dispersing north into British Columbia with some additional contribution from fires generating light smoke in the central valley of California and western Oregon. Mills THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
