DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z September 1, 2025
SMOKE: Western Canada/Western United States... Wildfires continued to burn across western Canada with the largest fires and heavy smoke production in the Northwest Territories and British Columbia. Large, thick plumes of smoke were emitted to the west from fires in central British Columbia, and mainly south from the Northwest Territories. Moderate smoke covered much of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, and spread south over the northwestern United States from the Pacific to the Dakotas. US West Coast... Wildfires in California, Oregon, and Washington were observed producing moderate to thick plumes of smoke which moved to the north and west, merging with smoke from Canada. The largest plumes were observed in central California, west-central Oregon, and throughout Washington State, with some contribution from fires in northern Idaho as well. Mills THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
