DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1655Z August 20, 2025
SMOKE: Canada... Wildfires continued burning in the central and southern Northwest Territories and northeastern Saskatchewan, producing light to moderate density smoke that covered much of the region and extended east toward Nunavut and Hudson Bay. Northern and Central Rockies/Central and Eastern CONUS/South Central Canada/Gulf of America/Atlantic Ocean... Wildfires in the western United States remained active, including those in northern Nevada, central Wyoming, central Idaho, western Montana, northeastern Utah, and western Colorado. Moderate to heavy density smoke was observed near the fires. Light-density smoke dispersed north into south-central Canada, where it merged with southward-moving smoke from Canadian fires, spread south into the northern Gulf of America, and extended east across the central and eastern United States into the Atlantic Ocean. Florida... A large wildfire in the Everglades and the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area was observed producing light-to-moderate density smoke drifting southeast out to the Atlantic Ocean. YL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
