DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z August 15, 2025
SMOKE: Canada/Atlantic Ocean... Wildfires continued to burn across the southeastern Northwest Territories, releasing light-to-moderate density smoke moving west towards Yukon. Light smoke was observed extending from Newfoundland and Labrador to merge with the residual smoke mass from previous wildfire activity over the Atlantic Ocean. Cloud cover continued to obscure smoke detection over the wildfires in central Canada. Western CONUS... Cloud cover obscured smoke detection over most of the wildfires located in western CONUS. Visible smoke plumes could be seen moving northeastern from the Rock Fire in central Idaho, the Windy Rock, Cloudrest, and Bivens Creek Fires in Montana, and the Sleeper Ranch and Red Canyon Fires in northern Wyoming. Southern Mexico/Bay of Campeche... A small area of light density smoke attributed to seasonal fire activity was observed this evening drifting westward across southern Mexico reaching into the Bay of Campeche. DUST: Caribbean... Light-to-moderate dust from the Saharan Desert was observed moving westward towards the Caribbean. Ferrante THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
