DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z August 7, 2025
SMOKE: Canada/Labrador Sea/Northeastern CONUS... Wildfires observed in northern Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and eastern Ontario continue to produce dense smoke plumes which spread into large areas of moderate-to-heavy smoke that traveled east across the Hudson Bay, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, northeastern CONUS and over the Labrador Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Widespread lighter dense smoke persisted across the northern region of the continent as it circulated to the east, extending far over the Atlantic Ocean. Western CONUS... Wildfires in western CONUS continue to remain active, notably the Monroe Canyon fire in central Utah, the Dragon Bravo fire in Grand Canyon National Park, the Snowstorm wildfire in north-central Nevada, the Lee wildfire in northwestern Colorado, and the Gifford Fire in southern California. Light density smoke from these wildfires, starting from southern California, merged together with the weather system and drifted northeast into the Midwestern United States before circling south towards the Gulf of America. Light-to-moderate smoke produced by the Gifford Fire also drifted south over the western Channel Islands. Libby THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
