DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1430Z July 31, 2025
SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/North Atlantic Ocean... A large area of smoke persisted across the northern region of the continent, and drifted towards the east from the Northwest Territories to the North Atlantic. Wildfires in the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Manitoba continued to produce large, dense plumes of smoke that moved east across Ontario and Quebec, thinning toward the Atlantic. Highest concentration of smoke plumes are focused in the eastern part of the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and western Ontario, with a southeast trajectory that has the potential to blanket over the Great Lakes Region in the coming hours. Arizona/Utah/Central United States... The Monroe Canyon fire in central Utah and the Dragon Bravo fire in northern Arizona continue to burn, emitting moderate-to-heavy smoke in the region and merging with the larger area of smoke produced by the Canadian wildfires as the smoke drifts northeast. Moderate-to-heavy smoke spread over Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, and the northern Great Plains, with moderate density smoke reaching the Great Lakes. DUST: Tropical Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea... Light Saharan dust was observed over parts of the tropical Atlantic Ocean, expanding west over the Lesser Antilles. Libby THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
