DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0150Z July 30, 2025
SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/North Atlantic Ocean... A large area of smoke persisted across the northern region of the continent, and drifted towards the east from eastern Alaska to the North Atlantic. Wildfires in the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Manitoba continued to produce large, dense plumes of smoke that moved east across Ontario and Quebec, thinning toward the Atlantic. Individual wildfire in southern British Columbia was seen producing smoke plumes with moderate density smoke concentrated around the origin of the wildlife and lighter density smoke drifting towards the east and south. Arizona/Utah/Central United States... Wildfires continued to burn in central Utah and northern Arizona, merging with the larger area of smoke produced by the Canadian wildfires as the smoke drifted northeast. Moderate-to-heavy smoke spread over Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, and the northern Great Plains, with moderate density smoke reaching the Great Lakes. Washington/Idaho... wildfires in Washington's Olympic National Forest and in central Idaho continued to burn, producing light-to-heavy smoke plumes moving slightly north. DUST: Caribbean... Light Saharan dust was observed moving westward across the Lesser Antilles. YL THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
