SMOKE: Alaska/Canada/North Atlantic Ocean... A large area of light-to-moderate smoke persisted across the north of the continent, and drifted generally east from eastern Alaska to the North Atlantic and circulated north over the Arctic. Wildfires in the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Manitoba continued to produce large, dense plumes of smoke that moved east across Ontario and Quebec, thinning toward the Atlantic. Arizona/Utah/Central United States... Wildfires continued to burn in Utah and northern Arizona, contributing to the larger area of smoke from fires in the north as the smoke drifted north and east. Large, dense plumes were generated from fires in northern Arizona and Utah, and spread over Wyoming Nebraska, and the Dakotas, with moderate density smoke reaching the Great Lakes. West Coast United States… Fires on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, and the Orleans Complex fire continued to burn and produce light-to-moderate plumes of smoke with slight movement to the northeast. Mills THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG:http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
