DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z March 17, 2025
SMOKE: Central Plains/Lower Mississippi River Basin... A layer of very light density remnant smoke attributed to agricultural fires in previous days was observed blanketing areas throughout the Central Plains and the Lower Mississippi River Basin. Several small light density plumes, concentrated mostly in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas, were also observed this morning emitting light density smoke that was blowing generally north in direction. No other areas of significant smoke were observed in the satellite imagery this morning. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Central and Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America/Bay of Campeche/Yucatan Peninsula/Atlantic Seaboard... An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols, attributed to scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed this morning along the southwestern coast of Mexico near northern Central America. It was then seen extending west into the Pacific Ocean and east into the southern Gulf of America near the Bay of Campeche and the Yucatan Peninsula where it continued northeast along the southern Atlantic Seaboard. Willkens THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
