DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0116Z March 05, 2025

SMOKE:
No areas of significant smoke were observed today.

BLOWING DUST:
Northern Mexico/New Mexico/Texas/Colorado/Kansas/ Gulf of America
A large dust storm originating from northern Mexico, New Mexico, Texas
and thicker swaths are originating from under cloud clover with the
origin being probably Colorado and Kansas. The mostly moderate area of
dust from northern Mexico, New Mexico were moving southwest combining
with the huge swaths of dense to moderate dust originating from north
of Texas as well as Texas and it was moving south before the dust moved
southwest over the Gulf of America. The dust is covering an over 3,200
square miles centered over Texas.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central and Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America/Gulf of
America/Bay of Campeche...
An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed
to scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial
sources throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed today along
the southwestern coast of Mexico near northern Central America where
it was then seen extending further west into the Pacific Ocean before
expanding east into the southwestern portion of the Gulf of America
near the Bay of Campeche. An area of light density smoke attributed to
seasonal fire activity in the region was also seen in the Caribbean Sea
off of the western coast of Cuba.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
