DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z February 28, 2025
Smoke: Southeastern United States/Atlantic Ocean... Numerous light density smoke plumes produced from agricultural burning and seasonal fire activity were observed across the southeastern United States. Majority of the smoke plumes were observed progressing eastward across their states. The most notable smoke plumes were observed in northern Florida, where the smoke extended eastward into the Atlantic Ocean. Oklahoma/Arkansas... An area of light density smoke produced from the combination of numerous smoke plumes was observed over southeastern Oklahoma and north-central Arkansas. This patch of smoke was observed progressing southward across the states, with some of the smoke extending into parts of Texas. Within the patch, localized moderate smokes plumes were seen progressing southeastward. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Central America/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of America... An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed to scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial sources throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed this evening along the southwestern coast of Mexico near northern Central America where it was then seen extending further west into the Pacific Ocean. This smoke/aerosol mixture extended north along the coast of eastern Mexico and was observed engulfing the western Gulf of America along with parts of southern United States. Nguyen THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
