DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1550Z February 25, 2025

Smoke:
Southeastern United States and the Northern Gulf of America….
An area of light density smoke, from seasonal burning over the
Southeastern United States, was seen extending from offshore the Virginia
and North Carolina coast extending southwest through portions of the
Southeastern United States and into the northern Gulf of America.


AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Western Caribbean Sea, Southern Mexico, Northwest Central America and
the Pacific Ocean….
An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed to
scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial sources
throughout central and southern Mexico was observed today over the western
Caribbean Sea extending southwest into central and southern Mexico,
northwest Central America and the Pacific Ocean south and southwest of
southern Mexico and northwest Central America.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
