DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1705Z January 25, 2025

SMOKE:
United States-Mexico Border/Baja California...
Several wildfires continue to burn near the United States-Mexico Border
and in Baja California as of this morning. A significant amount of mixed
density smoke was observed moving westward from the U.S.-Mexico Border
and their sources towards the Pacific Coast, where it was then seen
extending and dispersing further southwest over the Pacific Ocean. A
further and more detailed analysis of smoke within the area was limited
this morning due to extensive cloud cover over the region.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central and Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean...
An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed to
scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial sources
throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed this morning along
Mexico’s
Central and Southern Pacific Coasts, extending west into Pacific Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
