DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z January 24, 2025
SMOKE: Baja California... Two large wildfires were visible in northern Baja California, one being located southwest of Tijuana and the other located just southwest of Ensenada. Both wildfires were observed producing large amounts of moderate to thick density smoke that extended westward into the Pacific Ocean. In addition, a large area of light density smoke, likely from a combination of the two large wildfires and wildfires in California, was observed engulfing the coasts of California and Baja California while extending well into the Pacific Ocean. Arizona... Light density smoke was observed emanating from the ongoing Horton wildfire (Central Arizona). The smoke was observed drifting southwest and into northwestern Mexico. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean... An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed to scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial sources throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed this evening along Mexico’s Southern Pacific coasts, extending west into the Pacific Ocean. Nguyen THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
