REPORT DATE: 03-04-2026 REPORT TIME: 0416 UTC REGION: GULF OF AMERICA SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SOUTH TIMBALIER 9 IMAGE DATE: 03-03-2026 IMAGE TIME: 1737 UTC DATA SOURCE: PLANETSCOPE MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 3 meter LOCATION: 29°02'32" N/90°36'26" W AREA: 17.69 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. This anomaly is believed to be associated with NOAA ResponseLink Hotline 11125, and was located approximately 4.75 NM southwest of Timbalier Island, Louisiana. A large patch of thick oil was detected, with feathered trails that extended to the southeast. The patch of thick oil measured approximately 1.7 NM long and was 0.35 NM at its maximum width. Additional scattered patches of thicker oil were observed west of the main anomaly. Thinner oil exhibited a shimmery, silver sheen in optical imagery and extended both northeast and southwest of the thicker oil. Overall, the anomaly measured approximately 10.5 NM in length and was 1.85 NM at its maximum width. Winds at the time of the image were out of the southeast at 11 knots. UNCERTAINTIES: The full extent of the slick may be underestimated due to the presence of false positives and the spectral characteristics of the ocean background in this image.
