REPORT DATE: 10-13-2024 REPORT TIME: 2300 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 10-13-2024 IMAGE TIME: 1631 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 1.05 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The oil slick was observed at the site of the Destroyed Taylor Platform in the Mississippi Canyon area. The slick measured approximately 2.95nm in length and up to 0.35nm in width. The area appeared darker than the surrounding scene, but also contained a pocket of lighter colored sheen, which may have been an indication of relatively thicker oil. Due to the repeat nature of this source, confidence remains High. Winds at the time were NE at approximately 5-10kts. UNCERTAINTIES: None.
