REPORT DATE: 09-30-2024 REPORT TIME: 1210 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GRAND ISLE 108 IMAGE DATE: 09-30-2024 IMAGE TIME: 0002 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5X20 meter LOCATION: 28°23'08" N/90°08'08" W AREA: 2.05 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The slick was linear in shape, had a distinct contrast to the surrounding environment, and sharp and well-defined edges. The slick appeared to emanate from an oil facility in the South Timbalier/Grand Isle areas of the Gulf of Mexico. The slick was approximately 4.68nm in total length, and approximately 0.75nm at the widest point. Winds near the time of the image were out of the W/SW at 5kts, which aligned with the possible feathering throughout the slick. UNCERTAINTIES: None.
