REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate from the site of the Thomas Heyward shipwreck, a repeat leak source. It extended 3.1 nmi southwestward from the suspected source and was up to 0.1 nmi in width. The anomaly had a distinct, dark appearance against its background with sharp edges. Winds at the time of the image were from the NE at around 5 kts.

UNCERTAINTIES: There were several false positives in the form of vessel wakes and likely natural phenomena observed throughout other portions of the image swath. However, this anomaly had an appearance very distinct from those features. This, combined with the repeat leak nature of the suspected source, allowed for high confidence that this was oil.
