REPORT DATE: 06-05-2024 REPORT TIME: 2310 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 06-05-2024 IMAGE TIME: 1628 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'15" W AREA: 0.81 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The linear slick was believed to be emanating from the known Destroyed Taylor Platform. It was approximately 3.28 nm long and approx. 0.03 nm wide. The slick was white in color which indicated that it consisted of relatively thicker oil. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the S between 10-15 kts. which aligned well with the orientation of the slick. UNCERTAINTIES: None.
