Satellite Source: Sentinel 2A Mode: Multispectral Resolution: 10 meter Image Date & Time: 06-12-2018 1629 UTC Confidence: Medium-High Issue Date: 06-13-2018 Region: Gulf of Mexico Location: 28°12'31" N, 88°44'14" W Coverage Area: 6.93 km^2 Remarks: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. An anomaly was observed in satellite imagery emanating from a oil production facility. The anomaly stretched a total of 6.55 nautical miles in the North-South direction. The anomaly showed okay contrast with its background and stood out. This aligns well with surface winds around the time of the image, which were from the South at 5 knots. Confidence is deemed to be Medium-High given the shimmery appearance in optical imagery, which is consistent with oil in similar conditions. Uncertainties: Full extent of the anomaly is unknown due to cloud cover. The anomaly also lacked good contrast with its background throughout its full extent.
