Update #5: Engineering completed S-NPP spacecraft recovery efforts on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The S-NPP spacecraft was returned to nominal mission point as of 19:02:09 UTC on August 3, 2026. ATMS was placed in operational mode on August 4, 2026 at 13:45:48 UTC. VIIRS was placed in operational mode on August 4, 2026 at 13:51:51 UTC.  CERES was placed in operational mode on August 4, 2026 at 15:23:29 UTC. OMPS was placed in operational mode on August 4, 2026 at 16:01:23 UTC. 

As of Wednesday August 5, 2026, all S-NPP ATMS science products are approved for operational use and PDA OPS subscriptions for these products is made available starting from observation time 13:45 UTC, August 5, 2026. Direct Broadcast (DB) users can use the equivalent S-NPP ATMS Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) LEO products for operations. 

VIIRS and all OMPS products are expected to be approved for operations no earlier than next week as Cal/Val teams finish their assessment. An update notice will be posted once the VIIRS and OMPS products are ready for operational use.

Update #4: The S-NPP spacecraft entered a non-nominal state at 02:02 UTC on August 3, 2026. All science data remains unavailable and will not be recoverable until further notice; however, all instruments are in a safe state. Engineering will continue recovery efforts through the next few business days after which Cal/val teams will assess the data prior to approval for operational use of the science data.

PDA OPS requests for all S-NPP Science products were disabled at 13:34 UTC on August 3, 2026. 

NOAA-21 remains the primary JPSS series spacecraft, and Key Performance Parameters from its instruments continue to be delivered. S-NPP is a Tertiary satellite with no performance and latency requirements.
